DECEMBER 19, 2007, PETALUMA, CA—Calix today announced that
it has received RD Telecommunications acceptance from the Rural Utilities
Service (RUS) division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
for Calix fiber to the premises (FTTP) systems. The listing includes the Calix
C7 2.5 Gbps gigabit passive optical network (GPON) optical line terminal (OLT)
and 700 family of GPON optical network terminals (ONTs). This addition rounds-out
the previously listed Calix Fiber Drive (FD) OLT, Calix F5 OLT and Calix 400
and 500 families of GPON ONTs, providing industry leading deployment
flexibility. Calix acceptance of the 700 family ONTs and C7 GPON OLT to the RUS
"List of Materials" enables qualifying telecommunications service providers to access
RUS loans funded to promote the deployment of broadband services throughout the
United States, with a special emphasis on rural development. To date, Calix
has shipped 2.5 Gbps GPON OLTs to over 120 service providers, with nearly
100,000 ITU G.984-compliant Calix 700 ONTs shipped in the last 12 months—all of
which are deployable from over 16,000 Calix C7 platforms deployed and
in-service across the United States.
According to Donovan Prostrollo, IOC solutions marketing
director for Calix, "The ability to access RUS programs for the deployment of
market-leading Calix GPON solutions will accelerate an already rapid movement
toward complete fiber overbuilds undertaken by forward-looking independent
operating companies."
On December 11th, Calix received notification from the USDA indicating that the Technical
Standards Committee had granted RD Telecommunications Program acceptance to
Calix Networks, Inc. for 2.5 Gbps GPON technologies. These changes are
effective immediately and will be included in the next published revision to
the "List of Materials Acceptable for Use on Telecommunications Systems of RUS
Borrowers" Informational Publication 344-2.
Calix has actively participated in RUS listing activities since 2002 and has previously
received RUS program acceptance for multiservice access platform (MSAP)
applications, including traditional telephony services and advanced fiber- and
copper-based broadband access technologies. With over 450 customers transforming
their networks using solutions from Calix, this milestone reinforces Calix’
commitment to delivering the most advanced broadband services to rural
communities.
