Delivering Ultimate Broadband
As advanced, broadband-intensive applications like high definition video continue to emerge, it is clear that broadband capacity requirements will continue to rapidly be redefined. New technologies like VDSL2 can extend the useful life and service capacity of existing copper plant to meet these bandwidth requirements. However, fiber access is rapidly moving from early adopters to mainstream service providers looking to gain service and operational advantages against their competition.
GPON Is the Most Widely Deployed Fiber Access Technology
GPON has emerged as the leading fiber access technology for delivering residential, business, and mobile backhaul applications. Calix was the first company to offer GPON access solutions in North America, and today Calix GPON solutions are deployed by more service providers than all other vendors combined.
The key to the widespread adoption of GPON is its remarkable flexibility. GPON can deliver RF video and IPTV, TDM voice and VOIP, as well as 10/100/1000 Ethernet and TDM based T1s. With 2.5 Gbps downstream bandwidth and 1.2 Gbps upstream, GPON can handle today's applications and scale for the future. GPON also includes a third wavelength for RF video and offers RF Return over a fourth wavelength to support RF based interactive services (utilizing the emerging SCTE RFOG standard). Calix offers two GPON OLTs, the C7 MSAP work together with Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs for a full system solution.
Calix also offers Extended Reach GPON utilizing new amendments to the G.984 ITU standard – a solution that is especially useful for service providers operating in rural, low-density areas. Extended Reach GPON saves tens of thousands of dollars in outside plant cabinet and powering costs by extending the loop length of GPON from the traditional 20 km to 40 km.

Residential Active Ethernet and Business Point-to-Point Gigabit Ethernet Solutions Allow Dedicated Bandwidth Expansion
Leveraging over 10 years of fiber access expertise the Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs provide an innovative approach to Active Ethernet (AE) and point-to-point GE service delivery that can dramatically lower OPEX. Designed with the future in mind, the 700GX and 700GE ONTs automatically detect – and support – GPON or AE technology. In addition to simplifying initial deployment decision-making, this also allows service providers to selectively target high bandwidth users with AE – by swinging a fiber jumper to the high capacity, 1RU E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) or the small form factor E5-400 (for business point-to-point GE). That is all it takes to upgrade a subscriber's bandwidth. No truck roll, no replacing the original ONT.

Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs: GPON and Active Ethernet in the Same ONT
Leveraging unique auto-detect optics (GPON/AE), Calix 700GX and 700GE ONTs deliver unmatched flexibility to service providers looking to meet the broad service demands of both residential and business subscribers. Instead of being locked in by an earlier technology decision or being forced to manage two separate networks for residential and business services, service providers can now simply match the right technology to each deployment scenario, and manage the resulting range of services within a single network.
